I've found that the more I investigate reports of paranormal activity, and the more I see what other groups are presenting as "evidence" of the paranormal, the more skeptical I become of this entire field.
Back when I first got REALLY interested in this stuff about 10 years ago or more, it was a very magical type of thing for me. The group called GIS were the ones who really got me going on this paranormal bandwagon, after hearing them present their EVP's on Coast to Coast AM. Because of them, I got my first audio recorder, and my very first time out, I caught a VERY clear EVP! Like I said, it was a magical and mysterious topic. I didn't consider everything I saw as paranormal, but there really wasn't much else other than some gritty videos and pictures flying around the internet, as well as some pretty neat EVP's. It was the EVP that were the most intriguing to me.
Flash forward to today.........We have several ghost hunting TV programs and a countless number of paranormal internet radio shows.......heck, I was even asked to participate in one for tech advice!
Seeing some of the things that alot of groups are presenting these days, as well as how alot of the groups out there are making up rules as they go along, and arguing on who is right and who is wrong, I've found that the magic of the paranormal is really not there for me anymore. I feel as though I'm more of a skeptic now than before......maybe it's because of all of the "evidence" that is being submitted in the field that I just don't take as legit, and it seems like I'm the only one ready to admit that not every odd photo is "paranormal".....such as orbs and other photo and video anomalies. I'm even to the point of discounting EVP's that sound like simple single words, like "yes", or "no".
Perhaps some day the "celebrity status" of the paranormal will die down and the magic will return.
